The role of an Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) is to ensure the centers are working to the standards set by the awarding body. The  IQA has the responsibility of ensuring that all the center policies and procedures are up to date and verified by VTCT. You will work closely with the center assessor and the VTCT EQA to ensure that  both assessment processes and teaching methods used in the academy are strictly in line with the VTCT specification. The role of the IQA is also to implement a strict assessment process, oversee the development of teaching resources and ensure that the assessor feedback to the students is fair, reliable, consistent and  impartial. 

After you qualify you have the option to verify your own center or work as a freelance IQA for  other centers.

Course Overview

After the initial one-day induction, your training as an Internal Verifier (IV) involves several weeks of comprehensive online study and assignment completion. This is followed by practical training conducted in a classroom environment. Essential to your development is the mandatory work experience within a centre, where you will engage in carrying out Internal Verifying case studies and gain valuable hands-on experience.

Upon demonstrating competence and successfully completing your portfolio and practical assessments.Upon achieving qualification, you will be qualified to work as an Internal Verifier in any centre or with any awarding body.

Understanding the principles and practices of internally assuring the quality of assessment:

Your  role as an IV  involves implementing internal verification activities that ensure that assessments align with the specifications set by the awarding body. IV works closely with assessors and learners, implements a diverse range of assessment methods, including observation, written evidence, questioning, and meaningful discussions with learners. The principles of standardisation are key to an IV’s role, to ensure that the assessments are consistently and fairly conducted. Moreover, these principles help the IV to continuously seek opportunities for quality improvement and implement assessment processes that are robust, reliable and empower learners to succeed in their educational goals

Internally assure the quality of assessment:

As an IV, you will monitor that assessments meet awarding body requirements and evaluate assessor competence and their ability to fulfill their roles effectively. Your practical training will involve sampling assessment sessions and verify if they are safe, fair, valid and reliable assessment methods. The IV also scrutinises assessment decisions to confirm compliance with specified criteria and ensures consistency among all center assessors. IV provides valuable feedback, advice, and support to the centre and diligently ensures all the policies, procedures are up to date, related to health, safety, welfare, equality, diversity.

Structure of the Course

DAY 1 INDUCTION AND DEMO

The course commences with an informative theory presentation that delves into the learning outcomes related to conducting summative and diagnostic assessments. This training effectively identifies the pivotal role of the assessor within the centre, outlining the assessment process for students. Furthermore, it teaches the assessor's responsibilities not only to the learners but also to the Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) and External Quality Assurer (EQA). The day finishes with a summative assessment demo by our assessor.

ONLINE  ASSIGNMENTS

After the initial induction day, you will embark on a period of remote study, where you will delve into the training manual, VTCT log book, and the foundational knowledge necessary to successfully tackle the online assignments. During this phase, you are expected to compile a comprehensive portfolio of evidence, which should be completed and submitted. Additionally, as part of your practical application, you will conduct two case studies within your own practice, putting your acquired knowledge into action.

DAY 2 SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS

Prior to this stage, you would have already completed the sampling plan for our Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) and  planned the assessment schedule for the students, ensuring that the clients are booked according to their assessment requirements. Your next steps involve conducting an proficient assessment, under observation of our IV, which will involve you providing constructive feedback to the students and verify  the assessment paperwork and sample their portfolio.
