LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Our extensive experience in carrying out laser treatments in our clinic’s, coupled with teaching accredited Laser courses to our students in the academy on our proprietary laser machine, we stand uniquely positioned to deliver results where many others falter. While single-wavelength IPL, Diode, and Nd:YAG Lasers make grand claims, they often fall short in treating diverse skin and hair types. Our laser, however, treats diverse hair and skin types precisely with three distinct handpiece sizes, for the face, eyebrows, and body. Furthermore, its automated settings, which allow therapists minimal adjustments, negate the risks associated with inaccurate laser configurations. This ensures patients are protected from the substandard treatments and potential laser burns that unfortunately plague many clinics.

HOW LASER WAVELENGTHS WORK FOR EACH HAIR COLOUR AND SKIN TYPE

  • ALEXANDRITE

Operating at a wavelength of 755nm, the Alexandrite laser is particularly adept at targeting the melanin in hair follicles. Melanin is the pigment responsible for hair colour. When the Alexandrite laser is used, it emits a red beam of light that is absorbed by the melanin in the hair. This absorption causes the hair follicle to heat up and become damaged, thereby inhibiting future hair growth. Due to its specificity towards melanin, the Alexandrite laser is especially effective for individuals with lighter hair and skin types I-III.

  • DIODE

The Diode laser typically operates within the range of 800nm to 810nm. Its mechanism of action is similar to other hair removal lasers: it targets the melanin in hair follicles. As the melanin absorbs the laser's energy, it heats up and damages the follicle, reducing its ability to regrow hair. The Diode laser's particular wavelength provides a balance between melanin absorption and depth of penetration. Its deeper penetration ensures effective targeting of thicker and deeper hair follicles in lighter to medium-dark tones.

  • Nd:YAG

The Nd:YAG laser, with its 1064nm wavelength, stands out due to its longer wavelength that allows it to bypass the epidermis, minimising any potential risk of laser burns in darker skin tones, which contain more melanin in the skin. The heat created by the laser energy disables the hair follicle when it is in the active anagen hair growth cycle, ensuring that the surrounding tissue remains unaffected. This makes the Nd:YAG laser a preferred choice with our darker skin tones

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HAVING  LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENTS WITH US

  • PRE BOOKING TERMS

For newcomers to our clinic booking without a prior patch test, while we deeply respect that you may already have had laser treatments at other clinics, or feel that skin is resilient to any reactions, we will still require you to come in for a patch test at least 48 hours before you book the actual treatment.

  • Consultation

To ensure the utmost safety and efficacy of our laser treatments, we combine the initial consultation with the patch test, setting it apart from the actual treatment day. This approach  allows us to promptly detect and manage any concerns or conditions that might render laser treatments less than ideal for you. In this session, our focus will be to analyse the specifics of your hair growth, scrutinise any medical or hormonal issues that could impact the treatment. The patch test serves a dual purpose: it evaluates your skin's sensitivity and provides a sneak peek of the treatment process. Furthermore, we'll offer insights on aligning treatment schedules with hair growth phases and share our pre-treatment shaving guidelines.

  • TREATMENT PROCESS

Prior to your appointment, we expect the treatment area to be freshly shaved, and before the treatment, the laser consent form to be completed, and any metal jewellery to be removed. Our skilled laser therapist will inspect the skin for stray hairs and cleanse it with antiseptic to prep for the treatment. Employing a meticulous laser protocol tailored to the area being treated, she will monitor your comfort levels and check for any skin reactions throughout the procedure. Thanks to our advanced laser's technology and cooling handpiece, you can anticipate a session that's virtually devoid of pain or redness. Once the treatment concludes, she will share essential aftercare guidelines and assist in booking your follow-up session.

IMPORTANT PRE AND POST TREATMENT GUIDELINES- LASER HAIR REMOVAL

  • PRE TREATMENT ADVICE

    • Before your appointment, kindly ensure the treatment area is cleanly shaved.
    • For bikini and leg treatments, please wear white underwear and opt for loose-fitting trousers.
    • For facial sessions, come with a face free of foundation.
    • It's essential to avoid direct sun exposure for at least 5 days beforehand and to steer clear of any exfoliating products or procedures.
    • Please refrain from waxing or epilating the target area for a span of 7 to 10 days and ensure it's shaved a day before your scheduled treatment.
  • WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE THE LASER TREATMENTS

    • Conditions that prevent Laser hair removal:
    • Pregnancy: Laser hair removal is not recommended for pregnant women.
    • Active Infections or Skin Disorders: Like cold sores, psoriasis or eczema in the area. Recent Sunburn: Can be more susceptible to pigmentation from laser treatment.
    • Tanned Skin: Recently tanned skin, whether from sun exposure or tanning products. Medical Conditions: Heat conditions, Epilepsy, Diabetes, Skin Cancer, Pacemaker
    • Tattoos or Permanent Makeup: Lasering over a tattoo can cause the ink to scatter, and fade them.
  • POST TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

    • Avoid Sun Exposure: For 1 week after treatment. Use our ageless moisturiser SPF 50.
    • Cool Down: If you experience any redness or swelling, apply a cold compress or aloe vera gel to soothe the treated area.
    • Avoid Heat: For 24-48 hours after the treatment, such as saunas,or any intense heat.
    • Avoid Strenuous Exercise: That could cause excessive sweating for at least 24 hours.
    • No Waxing or Plucking on the treated area: Shaving is acceptable as it doesn’t stimulate the hair follicle.
    • No Exfoliation: Avoid any scrubs for 72 hours on the treated area..
    • Loose Clothing: Wear loose-fitting clothes to reduce any friction or irritation on the treated area.
    • No Tanning: Avoid tanning beds and self-tanning products for 2 weeks after.
    • Avoid Picking Hairs: Let treated hairs fall out, resist the urge to pick off.
    • Inform your laser therapist immediately: if you experience any prolonged redness, swelling, blistering, or change in pigmentation.
    • Next Session: Book a course of 6 sessions initially, every 4 weeks, for optimal results, since the laser can only disable the hair when in the anagen hair growth cycle.

FAQ

Why is it important to have laser treatments every 4 weeks?

For the most effective laser hair removal outcomes, a vital understanding of the hair growth cycles is essential. The laser performs at its peak when targeting hairs in the anagen stage, the active growth phase, which typically spans around every 4 weeks. After this period, the hair transitions into the catagen stage before settling into the telogen phase. In these stages, one hair lies dormant while a new successor prepares to emerge from the same follicle. The laser's efficacy diminishes during this period. Hence, a consistent treatment regime is vital, ensuring each session is timed to coincide with the anagen phase, optimising the laser's potential to permanently disable the hair follicle.

Does that mean that my first treatment is not that effective?

Yes. It’s highly unlikely that many of your hairs were in the anagen hair growth stage, it takes a few treatments to synchronise into the anagen stage. However you will see a change in the hairs, they will arrear finer.

I don’t like the idea of shaving before treatments, i think it grows stronger hairs?

Not true. Shaving does not stimulate the hair growth like waxing and plucking does, it’s just that the blunt end from shaving makes it appear thicker.

I have some white hairs on my chin, will your laser help with those?

No, none of the lasers will work on white hairs, as white hairs don’t have the dark melanin pigment, which the laser targets in order to disable the hair follicle. Electrolysis is advisable and will give you some

Why do all lasers work better on dark hairs?

Darker hairs contain a higher concentration of melanin, which acts as the target for the laser energy. When the laser is directed towards these hairs, the melanin readily absorbs the energy, converting it to heat. This heat damages the hair follicle, hindering its ability to regrow. It's a misconception that all lasers are universally effective on dark hairs, only Nd:YAG is the most effective for dark hairs, while Diode and IPL lasers tend to be more suited for light to medium hair colours.

Is Laser hair removal permanent or is it just temporary hair management?

Laser hair removal offers a long-term solution rather than just a temporary fix. When the procedure successfully disables a hair follicle, that particular follicle won't regenerate hair. However, various factors like pregnancy, stress, or steroid use can stimulate the production of male hormone androgen, potentially activating dormant hair follicles. This can lead to the growth of new hairs, although not as profusely as before the initial treatments. Periodic maintenance sessions can effectively manage and reduce this new growth.
