Treatment Overview

  • Employing a 12-pin Dermapen set to a depth of 1.00mm-1.5mm, our objective is to deliberately induce injury in the dermal layer and send it into repair mode to combat lingering blemishes from previous acne breakouts. Skin needling is the most efficient and quickest method of triggering skin cell renewal and improving skin blemishes.

Microneedling is not for the faint hearted, although we use the topical anaesthetic, it requires a high pain threshold, post-treatment care during the skin recovery period and lifestyle adjustments immediately after the treatment.

Homecare is essential for a consistently clear complexion.

Tools and Products Used in this Treatment

  • Derma Rollers

Derma rollers create micro-channels in the skin, allowing deep serum penetration to the basal layer, promoting skin clarity. Our 540-needle Derma roller, with a 1.00mm depth addressing acne blemishes and rejuvenating the sluggish epidermis. Micro-needling benefits include minimising pores, enhanced circulation and reduced acne breakouts. The 540 Derma Roller's precise method transports serum into the basal layer while 192 Derma Rollers techniques target the dermal layer and  induce deliberate micro-injuries through deeper needling tailored for stubborn acne indents that stem from the dermis.

  • Dermapen

Choose your needle depth and size according to the skin concern location in the skin structure. Dermapen using 12 needles from 1.2mm to 1.5mm depth with aggressive needling techniques should  induce bleeding and target the dermal layer skin concerns such as deep acne scars, indents, wrinkles and sluggish lymphatic circulation that causes breakouts.Dermapen 36- 42-needles with a 1.0mm depth can be used instead of Derma Rollers with a  light stamping technique to ensure optimal stem cell absorption directly into the basal layer, an aggressive injury approach can adversely redirect stem cells into the lymphatic system and be swept away.

This is a great no-needle alternative to microneedling for sensitive skin with acne pustules and for client’s with needle phobia.

  • Derma Stamp

Derma stamp can be used on 1.5mm on the face for treating acne scars and 2.0 on the body for stretch marks to rejuvenate damaged tissue and stimulate collagen production and elastin fibres. Adjusting the stamping pressure according to the area ensures a safe and effective treatment, such as 1.5mm on the face for acne indents, 0.75mm for under eye dark circles and fine lines and 2.0 on the stretch marks for the  body areas.

Ageless serum is our most popular serum for the body areas and  Illumine eye serum for the under eye. Stretch marks are very stubborn and require many treatments and when they are very deep, micro-needling is not the best treatment.

The Treatment Process

  • 1: The Consultation

A detailed consultation is carried out to identify your goals, skin challenges and analyse your skin and discuss the benefits, potential side effects, risks and complications with microneedling. Consultation of your skin's deeper intricacies helps your therapist to customise the tools, products, all fine-tuned for your distinctive skin requirements. Furthermore, drawing from this in-depth analysis, we can prescribe your home skincare products and maintenance regime that amplifies the effects of our in-clinic treatments.

  • 2: PRE TREATMENT ADVICE

    • It's advisable to refrain from consuming alcohol and blood-thinning medications for at least 72 hours before your scheduled appointment.
    • We recommend exfoliating the skin with a Clarify Peel mask 24 hours prior to treatment, as it prevents the  microneedling process from  circulating, which can lead to breakouts.
    • Keep the skin free of make-up and products for at least 24 hours, and don’t schedule any meetings or gym sessions.

Remove with facial gauze soaked in lukewarm water.

  • Step 2 + 3

  • Step 4

    Microneedling Protocol:

Begin by applying 4 drops of Clarify serum to the right cheek, distributing it evenly.

Initiate the microneedling sequence with careful attention to each area.

    Microneedling Sequence:

Right Cheek and Chin: Using needle depth ranging from 1.2mm.

    Left Cheek and Chin: Repeat

Forehead, Nose and upper lip, opt for a needle depth of 1.0mm and go lighter.

    Technique Tips:

While microneedling, integrate a combination of circular and stamping techniques to ensure optimal outcomes. If necessary, consistently reapply the Clarify serum during the procedure for continuous benefits.

  • Step 5

After the microneedling session, the skin will feel quite hot and tender, which is why we recommend applying a cold compress to the treated area, which calms down the erythema after the treatment.

Apply a barrier cream and Illumine Moisturiser.

  • Aftercare

    Day 1-2

    • The intensity of the needling and the sensitivity of your skin will determine the post treatment skin reaction you will need to manage.
    • For (4-48 hours) erythema, swelling and tightness is normal, which you can manage with cold compresses and Aloe vera gel.
    • During this healing period refrain from using any harsh, acne, or oily skin products that increase the skin’s Ph balance.
    • If you feel the need to soothe and hydrate the skin, apply a chilled Regenerate sheet mask.

    Day 3-5

    • The skin may appear dull, dry, tight and peel, resist the urge to exfoliate or scratch, just put Ageless HA Serum to rehydrate and soothe the skin for 5-7 days.
    • Keep the skin protected at all times with Illumine Moisturiser SPF 50.

FAQ

Is anaesthetic cream used during the microneedling treatment?

Absolutely, the aesthetic practitioner will apply a topical anaesthetic cream prior to the microneedling treatment in order to ensure that your comfort is maintained at all times.

Is my skin going to be really red after the treatment?

You should expect redness after the microneedling treatment as the main purpose of the procedure itself is to cause injury to the skin in order to stimulate the skin’s natural healing process. Expect redness and swelling of the treated area, which will subside in 48h. We advise you not to book any major events after the microneedling treatment due to the possible downtime.

Is the microneedling going to be painful?

As topical anaesthetic cream is applied during the treatment, pain and discomfort is minimised. You will experience slight pressure and vibrations from the microneedling device during the treatment, however, no actual pain. After the treatment, the area will feel hot and tender for the following 24h and we recommend applying a cold compress, which will calm down the skin.

Is my skin going to bleed during the micro-needling?

Bleeding is dependent on each individual, however, it is often expected during the microneedling treatment as it is being carried out in the dermal layer of the skin. The treatment uses very small, fine needles so excessive bleeding is not expected due to the controlled trauma caused to the skin.

How long until I see results?

Expect to see results 7-10 days post treatment. This is due to the fact that the injury to the skin caused during the microneedling treatment has triggered the healing process, which goes through 4 different phases before completely restoring the skin. You might experience dryness, tightness and shedding in the first 4 days as the skin will still be in the process of regenerating itself. Skin is completely healed and you will notice a healthy glow after the 7th day, when the healing process has reached its final stage.

When should I book my next session?

We advise to book your microneedling treatment every 4 weeks as you need to allow the skin to completely regenerate itself and produce new collagen and elastin, which takes up to 21 days. In regards to how many treatment sessions you need, we recommend you consult with your aesthetic therapist as that will be completely customised towards your skin concern and needs.
